SEPTEMBER 2020 DIVIDENDS

Another month down and another month closer to the end of 2020.  3/4 of the way there and 2021 could not come faster IMO.   We've had a life changing pandemic, economic upheaval, too many deaths, and an uncertain future.

But I did pick up some matching Billie Eilish wigs for my kid and I....

One thing that remained steady, especially for September, was dividend income.

After the cuts earlier this year, dividend income is one of the few constants through all of this chaos. Once I replaced them with solid earners, my income has stabilized.

To quickly sum it up I received 47 dividend payment for a total of $1449.18  One of the joys of the last month of each quarter is that I get so many payouts, about 1.5 per day on average.  Makes keeping track real fun.

The big earner was the BHP Group (BBL), an international natural resource miner.

Here are the details.

SEPTEMBER 2020 DIVIDEND INCREASES

One of the main points of Dividend Growth Investing is receiving increases in the dividends.  Well, duh...

2020 has been a it sketchy with that as the pandemic threw a wrench into many companies' growth.

I received no increases in August.

September was infinitely better.  4 increases.  (4 is infinitely larger than 0...  uh, something like that)

The big surprise was seeing a 9.8% increase from Starbucks.  They had been hit hard by the shutdowns an have adjusted well to the new normal.  I wasn't expecting one at all.

Here's the summary.

The result was a $16.94 increase to my annual dividends.  Which I will also re-invest and make the snowball rolling down hill just that much larger.

Cheers!

SEPTEMBER 2020 BUYS

The month of September was quite the active one in terms of buying shares.  March, June, September, and December have been my active months with the large dividend payouts.   What added to this are selling off of companies that ended their dividend since the pandemic began.

The last three companies I held that had ended their dividend were Cracker Barrel (CBRL), Chatham Lodging Trust (CLDT), and Apple Hospitality REIT, (APLE).  I held on th them the longest since these three had the biggest dip since COVID-19 hit.  They never really recovered and I got out.

I put the money to work earning dividends in safer companies.

In total, I spent $1,453.70 and will earn $278.84 annually from the purchases.  Thats a whopping 19.18% yield.  It justifies selling the shares of companies that were paying nothing.

Here's the breakdown...

My big buy was the high yield ETF VYM.  Also got a large chunk of Best Buy (BBY).  They have been killing it and adusted well to the new reality we are living in.   Another large purchase was picking up some Travellers Insurance (TRV).

All of these buys were at a good price point, have a low P/E ratio, and have been raising their dividend.

Now on to Octoober!
